If you’ve started 2020 with renewed fitness goals then you may be looking to put your new fitness to good use and raise some money for your favourite charity at the same time. Not only does signing up for events give you extra motivation to keep going but it also helps some great organisations continue their work in the community so it’s a win/win for everyone.
Here are the events we’re aware of in Haywards Heath and Mid Sussex– if you know of any more, please let us know and we’ll add it to the list.
1. Haywards Heath Lions Swimathon – 10th April 2020
Our good friends at Kangaroos are looking for swimmers to take part in this event for them. You can be any age or ability. All you need to do is get together a team of six swimmers for a 55-minute relay. Every participant gets a medal. To find out more and support this event, check out the Kanagaroos event page.
2. The Dark Star 7 with RunBrighton – 2nd May 2020
The Dark Star 7 is a 7km run on the Downslink track between Partridge Green and Henfield, starting and finishing at the Dark Star Brewery. This event raises money for the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. All those that finish the race will get a free pint of beer (that seals the deal for us!) or soft drink and BBQ. There will also be live music and prizes for fancy dress costumes. 7km is a lovely distance to run and very achievable for those doing the couch to 5k challenge at the start of the year. All details here.
3. Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend – Saturday 23rd-Sunday 24th May 2020
This year the Mid Sussex Marathon brings you three races in three towns over one weekend! Taking place in Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and East Grinstead you can run one, two or all three races to cover the distance of a half marathon or marathon. Or you can choose to run just one of the races. These include a 5 or 10 mile race in East Grinstead, 5 or 10 mile race in Haywards Heath and a 5km or 10km race in Burgess Hill. Confused? Don’t be, just head over to their website and take your pick from the choice of races. There are also races for juniors and beginner adults so you have no excuse not to take part!
4. Haywards Heath Inflatable 5k Obstacle Run – 11th July 2020
This is a great event for the whole family taking place at Hickstead Showground. This is the UK’s biggest and bounciest inflatable 5k race with 28 huge obstacles, including a foam zone. You can choose to do one lap of 2.5km, perfect if you’re doing it with the kids or two laps of 5km if you just can’t get enough of the obstacles! Buy your tickets here.
5. K2 Crawley 10k – 25th October 2020
This race is organised by the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley and follows an undulating course in and around Tillgate Park. The race starts and finishes on the track at K2 so family and friends can come and watch you sprint finish. There are children’s track races happening before the main race at around 10.15am. Medals and goodies are on offer for all finishers. Get the details here.
6. Haywards Heath Bike Ride
The Haywards Heath Bike Ride is a great event that takes place every year. No date has been set yet for 2020 but it is thought to be October. Follow them on Twitter for updates.
